Discovered: Another of Peter Quill’s Awesome Mixes?

Having seen Guardians of the Galaxy this weekend like a million or more other people in America, we here at Rhino were, at least to a certain extent, not entirely rocked back on our feet when a weather-beaten envelope arrived at our offices this morning containing a well-played cassette tape adorned with a label reading, “Awesome Mix Vol. 4.”

As you might imagine, our first thought was that someone was attempting to pull off some sort of lame stunt in order to be associated in some tangential fashion to a film that’s pulled such a huge box-office take – because, honestly, who doesn’t want to ride on the coattails of someone else’s success – but then we got to thinking about the fact that it said “Vol. 4” rather than “Vol. 2,” and...well, call us crazy, but that didn’t just seem like the work of someone lazily borrowing a bit of thunder from someone else.

That seemed like the work of someone who cared.

Just to be sure, though, we had one of our interns hustle the package over to S.T.A.R. Labs – we have more of an “in” with those guys – but damned if their scientists didn’t confirm the handwriting of Peter Quill’s mother. Mind you, they also indicated that, for legal reasons, there’s a very strong chance – we don’t have the stats in front of us right now, but we can probably just go ahead and round it up to 100% – that this may have been the Ms. Quill of Earth-One.

Still, we think that it won’t take more than a single spin of this playlist for you to decide just as quickly as we did that, no matter what this Ms. Quill’s dimension of origin may be, she and her counterpart certainly shared the same great taste in music...and, more importantly, boy, did she know how to make an awesome mix.
