The Grateful Dead have shared a rollicking live version of "Mr. Charlie" captured in St. Louis 1971. The performance is plucked from LISTEN TO THE RIVER: ST. LOUIS '71 '72 '73, set for release this fall. The collection celebrated the band's early '70s concert history in St. Louis, MO. The song and performance features a lead vocal from the late Ron "Pigpen" McKernan.

"The final Pigpen-Hunter collaboration that would be released on an album, this shuffle was a standout on Europe '72, explained band biographer, David Lemieux. "It was played a total of 50 times after its debut on 7/31/71 in New Haven, the same show at which Sugaree debuted. It was played at all 22 shows of the Europe '72 tour.

LISTEN TO THE RIVER: ST. LOUIS '71 '72 '73 is available now for pre-order and will be released on October 1. Production of the set is limited to 13,000 individually numbered copies and available exclusively from Dead.net for $199.98. The collection will also be available in its entirety as a digital download exclusively at Dead.net in Apple Lossless ($139.98) and FLAC 192/24 ($174.98).
