SHUT UP

Minneapolis rock legends The Replacements had a famously antagonistic attitude towards making music videos during the height of the MTV era in the 1980s. The group, known for filming classic anti-video statements like the 1986 clip for "Bastards of Young," would eventually embrace the medium with a series of appropriately oddball approaches from Marx Brothers-style chaos to Claymation.

In that same spirit, today, the group debuted a new video for "Shutup," a track off their 1981 Twin/Tone debut, Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash. As part of the album's 40th anniversary this year, Rhino is celebrating the release with a new 4CD/1LP deluxe edition on October 22, 2021. Watch it below.

Lake & Pine design studio produced the "Shutup" video, which was animated by Pat Moriarity and Seth Zeichner. The video features dynamic penciling and a monochromatic look that fits the song's aggressive sound and surly attitude.

A number of 'easter eggs' are hidden throughout the video that longtime Replacements and Minneapolis music fans will undoubtedly appreciate. Eagle-eyed viewers will note references to pioneering Twin Cities punk combo Suicide Commandos, who helped jump-start a scene that would eventually produce bands like The Suburbs, Husker Du, Soul Asylum, and The Replacements.

Another 'easter egg' appears as the name 'Dogbreath' can be seen on a drum kit. 'Dogbreath' was the moniker of the pre-Replacements band guitarist Bob Stinson formed in 1979 with drummer Chris Mars and his brother, bassist Tommy Stinson, who was just 12 years old at the time. There are a handful of other historic nods that fans will also be able to spot.

Ahead of its October 22 release date, SORRY MA, FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH (DELUXE EDITION) can now be pre-ordered at Rhino.com for $79.98. Those who pre-order the album will receive an exclusive flyer reproduction from their show at the 7th St. Entry in Minneapolis, MN, in 1981.
